Goodreads Synopsis:
Fans of Susan Dennard's New York Times bestselling Witchlands series have fallen in love with the Bloodwitch Aeduan. And now, finally, comes his story. High in a snowy mountain range, a monastery that holds more than just faith clings to the side of a cliff. Below, thwarted by a lake, a bloodthirsty horde of raiders await the coming of winter and the frozen path to destroy the sanctuary and its secrets. The Bloodwitch Aeduan has teamed up with the Threadwitch Iseult and the magical girl Owl to stop the destruction. But to do so, he must confront his own father, and his past.
My Review:
*Thank you Raincoat Books for sending me an ARC of Bloodwitch by Susan Dennard for an honest review.*
I was so excited to read Bloodwitch because the synopsis stated that this is suppose to be Aeduans’ story, and he is my favourite character in the series. Aeduans’ character has always been more mysterious and now we finally get a deeper look into his life.
I really enjoyed getting a closer look into Aeduans past, seeing his pains and struggles as a Bloodwitch. At times my heart broke for little Aeduan, I just wanted to hug him and comfort him. His moments with Isulet were ones to look forward to. Susan Dennard's writing is fun and engaging. She handled the few events in the story well and kept you intrigued for only a while. Her world building is spectacular as you get a vivid idea of what the Witchlands are like. Although reading Bloodwitch reminded me of all the reasons I didn't enjoy Windwitch tenfold, (The POVs... they'res six of them... yes you read it right SIX!) I only liked the perspective of Isuelt and Aeduans and there moments together. So, for majority of the time reading I wasn’t thrilled. There were too many story lines which led to it to be confusing and boring. I found Bloodwitch to be a filler book. There was just too much going on and at the same time, nothing purposeful. Overall it was dull and boring. I couldn't have been happier when I finished reading it.
