Goodreads Synopsis:
Sora can move as silently as a ghost and hurl throwing stars with lethal accuracy. Her gemina, Daemon, can win any physical fight blindfolded and with an arm tied behind his back. They are apprentice warriors of the Society of Taigas—marked by the gods to be trained in magic and the fighting arts to protect the kingdom of Kichona. As their graduation approaches, Sora and Daemon look forward to proving themselves worthy of belonging to the elite group—but in a kingdom free of violence since the Blood Rift Rebellion many years ago, it’s been difficult to make their mark. So when Sora and Daemon encounter a strange camp of mysterious soldiers while on a standard scouting mission, they decide the only thing to do to help their kingdom is to infiltrate the group.Taking this risk will change Sora’s life forever—and lead her on a mission of deception that may fool everyone she’s ever loved.
My Review:
*Thank you HCC Frenzy for sending me an ARC of Circle of Shadows by Evelyn Kye for an honest review.*
I have to put this book down. This was such a tough decision but it was the right one. This would be my second DNF ever but I feel that I shouldn’t waste my time reading Circle of Shadows anymore. I am very disappointed. I really enjoyed The Crown’s Game series by Evelyn Skye, I loved book one but I felt book two fell completely short. I mean, I still enjoyed it. I was really excited for Circle of Shadows, hoping Evelyn would bring me another magical world and characters to love but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. I had two major problems with this book. The first was that I wasn’t a fan of the writing. I found the writing and dialogue to be a bit too childish. The second is that I wasn’t attached to any of the characters. For me being attached to characters is crucial because it’s them who you follow along. If your uninterested in them really what’s there to read? The main characters, Sora and Daemon, were really juvenile and not in an intriguing way. Overall, the novel brought nothing new or interesting to keep me awake. Yes, the plot was moving (a little slow but still moving) but I just didn’t care.
