Goodreads Synopsis:

In the wake of tragedy, neither Lazlo nor Sarai are who they were before. One a god, the other a ghost, they struggle to grasp the new boundaries of their selves as dark-minded Minya holds them hostage, intent on vengeance against Weep. Lazlo faces an unthinkable choice—save the woman he loves, or everyone else?—while Sarai feels more helpless than ever. But is she? Sometimes, only the direst need can teach us our own depths, and Sarai, the muse of nightmares, has not yet discovered what she's capable of. As humans and godspawn reel in the aftermath of the citadel's near fall, a new foe shatters their fragile hopes, and the mysteries of the Mesarthim are resurrected: Where did the gods come from, and why? What was done with thousands of children born in the citadel nursery? And most important of all, as forgotten doors are opened and new worlds revealed: Must heroes always slay monsters, or is it possible to save them instead? Love and hate, revenge and redemption, destruction and salvation all clash in this gorgeous sequel to the New York Timesbestseller, Strange the Dreamer.

My Review:

* Thank you Hachette Book Group for sending me an ARC of Muse of Nightmares for an honest review *

Where do I begin. I was completely absorbed into the story. It's like I've been sleeping and dreaming this entire time. I can't believe a book can be so perfect and magical. This novel is the definition on how you write a sequel. Strange the Dreamer set the bar so high. I was worried that I wouldn't enjoy Muse of Nightmares as much. I have no idea how it's even possible but, Muse of Nightmares exceeded Strange the Dreamer. Yes it’s true. Laini Taylor's writing is mystical, that's the only way I can describe it. Her story, world, and characters are, literally, out of this WORLD! Everything is special and it's like it's been sprinkled with pixie dust just to top everything up. I loved EVERYTHING; the story, the world, the writing and the characters. The characters especially. I am absolutely infatuated with every single character. You can see the time Laini Taylor put in her characters, and it totally pays off. I am astonished by the character growth and once you believe that a character is done growing Laini surprises you by showing them becoming stronger and fiercer, by going far and beyond possible limits. Not only Muse of Nightmares is a gorgeous story but it also has a clear and meaningful message that strikes you right in the heart. After finishing this book I am split. I don't know if I should be happy or sad if I should laugh or cry. This duology owns my heart and soul. So full of love, beauty, and wonder. I can't wait to read what Laini Taylor comes up with next!
