My Review:

* Thank you Penguin Random House for sending me a finished copy of Catwoman : Soulstealer for an honest review *

Just like with Batman: Nightbringer I don't have much to say so this is going to be a short and quick review.

After reading Marie Lu's take on Batman I initially did not intend to continue with the DC Icons series. But I decided to give Catwoman: Soulstealer a try with Sarah J. Maas being one of my favourite authors. Catwoman: Soulstealer is a take on the origin of Selina Kyle otherwise known as Catwoman.

This didn't feel like a Sarah J. Maas book. I have loved every single book she has written except for this. I love that she got the opportunity to write a story with such a classic character but I wish it was executed better. I found the story to be a bit rushed and Sarahs writing to be restrained. The plot and character development also fell short.

The story not only revolves around Selina but also Luke Fox, Lucious Fox's son and aka Batwing. Maas did an awesome job, giving the reader an insight into the intentions and the motivation of each character. Key elements were explained like why they chose a certain path and the consequneces behind it.

As a DC fan, I did enjoy Maas's rendition of Catwoman. It was action packed and had an interesting storyline. I also found myself connecting pieces of the story to small scenes in Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy. I enjoyed seeing not only Catwoman but other classic Batman villains like Harley Quinn, Poison Ivy, Falcone, and my favourite, Joker.

I can't say that I am disappointed with the book. I didn't have high expectations going in and felt what I had initially thought I would feel - melo. Catwoman: Soulstealer was a quick mediocre read.
