Goodreads Synopsis:

Secret Identities. Extraordinary Powers. She wants vengeance. He wants justice. The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies — humans with extraordinary abilities — who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone... except the villains they once overthrew. Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice — and in Nova. But Nova's allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.

My Review:

I originally didn’t plan to read this book. I read the first three books in the Lunar Chronicle series and I didn't get what all the hype was about. But I must say, I had a great time reading this book!

Even though Renegades is over 500 pages, it was a quick read. The story was perfectly paced, and did keep you curious enough to continue reading. It didn't give me that dreadful moment when you look at how many pages you still have left. By the time I paid attention to the pages I was already halfway done!

The main reason why I’m not giving this book 5 stars is because I didn't feel my heart racing or my hands shaking or on the edge of a seat at any moment. I had a lot of predictions, and I was close on some, not so close on others. I was able to predict the main twist! At least I think it was the main one.

I loved the personalities of the secondary characters. Im just going to put it out there that even though Adrian (aka Sketch) was cute and funny at times, he did bug me a lot. I didn't see him as a real superhero and to be honest he was kind of annoying and just seemed like he didn't get to really see the hardships of the world and is just being happy and enjoying his time as a superhero, which was very naive. But he does have a a pretty cool power, being able to draw anything and it would come to life... I WANT! I love Oscar (aka Smokescreen) who constantly made me laugh! Also Phobia and my sweet sweet Winston (aka The Puppeteer)! Both characters are so creepy, and I loved it! Especially Winston, being able to control kids as though they were his puppets. Nova (aka Nightmare) was an excellent character too. I loved how she is always observing and analyzing everything around her. How even though she isn't "strong" physically, she is very strong mentally.

There was not much of a romance. The little moments we did get were cute and sometimes funny but I would have liked something more.

I do watch a lot of superhero movies so I did make a lot of connections with the heroes and villains in this book with others. One that really stood out was Ace who had telekinesis and wore a helmet. I immediately thought about Magneto from X-Men!

The ending was completely different from what I had expected throughout the whole book. Overall, I am looking forward to the next chapter of this series!
