Goodreads Review:

Most know Androma Racella as the Bloody Baroness, a powerful mercenary whose reign of terror stretches across the Mirabel Galaxy. To those aboard her glass starship, Marauder, however, she's just Andi, their friend and fearless leader. But when a routine mission goes awry, the Marauder's all-girl crew is tested as they find themselves in a treacherous situation and at the mercy of a sadistic bounty hunter from Andi's past. Meanwhile, across the galaxy, a ruthless ruler waits in the shadows of the planet Xen Ptera, biding her time to exact revenge for the destruction of her people. The pieces of her deadly plan are about to fall into place, unleashing a plot that will tear Mirabel in two. Andi and her crew embark on a dangerous, soul-testing journey that could restore order to their shipor just as easily start a war that will devour worlds. As the Marauder hurtles toward the unknown, and Mirabel hangs in the balance, the only certainty is that in a galaxy run on lies and illusion, no one can be trusted.

My Review:

My friend got me a copy of the Zenith arc, and I'll be honest I initially wasn't going to read it. The story had nothing new to offer and I heard a lot of negative things towards the book. Since I had a copy of the book I thought I might as well give it a shot, no harm done. I'm happy to say that it's not as bad as everyone is claiming. It definitely kept me intrigued until the very end.

Zenith was a decent novel, but there were moments that could have been handled better. It isn't a very unique book. It doesn't have anything new or refreshing that would have made it stand out from all the other YA books. It has the classic clichés and ideas that we've read a million times over. This book has so much potential and without the redundant plot it could have been something special. I also thought the climatic twist was very predictable.

There's a ton of POV, like 6 POVs. That was way too much. I think 3 POV are more than enough, to make the reader engaged without being frustrated or lost. I'm personally not a fan of multiple POVs, I get really frustrated every time a switch of character happens. I was pretty indifferent with the characters I didn't care that much. Near the end I started skimming the POVs of the characters I didn't like and who I thought didn't need a perspective.

I kind of felt that Zenith was the origin stories for those POVs, and it was too much. There was so much background knowledge and flashbacks added that made the book feel too long. I cannot stress how long it was! I was struggling in the middle, even when I was on page 350 and only had 150 pages left I felt that was too much and the book would never end. I cannot stress this enough IT DRAGGEDDDDDDD!!! I enjoyed the first 200 pages and the last 50. There were too many things going on in the book. Many were pretty useless and should have been removed to make the book more concise. By far my biggest complaint is that the book is TOO DAMN LONG!

The characters were okay, I really didn't mind any of them. The only character I loved was Alfie, a robot, that brought some life in the book and made me smile. Alfie reminded me of C-3PO from Star Wars. Androma I would say was the protagonist. She is a wanted woman and is a space pirate captain of the Marauder. She is called the Bloody Baroness (very cool name). I'm not going to lie, I did like Dex, who is Andi's ex-boyfriend. I know a lot of people were either iffy about him or disliked him, but I totally got his character for what he is. I found myself waiting for his perspective and I have to say, I enjoyed reading it.

The action and fight scenes were awesome, I really enjoyed them. They themselves got the book a star. The ending was the best part of the book, it drew me in some more and everything came together very nicely, and it did have a couple surprises. Overall the book was entertaining and has potential, if they would have just made it shorter it could have been more clear and concise.
